Document Library administration
To manage articles on a Play-Cricket site’s library, go to Administration>Site Management>Information Board and then Library.
The articles in the library will be listed in descending order of date created.
If you see articles that you cannot edit or delete, it is because they have come from another site e.g. a league site.
Each article is placed into a category that has been created by a site administrator.
Select the Categories tab to add, edit or delete a category.
To add a new category, click the Add New Category button, enter a category name and click Save.
Click the cross to remove a category. Categories may be deleted only if there are no articles attached.
In the example below, you can see that two categories have no articles, so may be removed. A warning message will appear in case you selected delete by mistake.
To add an article, click Add New Article on the right hand side of the Articles page.
Enter a title and a document category (from the drop down selection). These fields may be edited if you change your mind.
To create an article based on an existing one, or to update an article and preserve the original, use the ‘Copy from’ feature that will make a copy of the selected article.
Select Save.
Hover over an icon above the text entry box to see its function.
To attach a document, click on the icon that looks like a luggage tag.
You could type any text straight into the box but it is preferable to create a plain text file (one without formatting characters) using Notepad in Windows or Text Edit in Mac, and then copy the text into the article.
If you have created a document in Word, then please be aware that the formatting might not match that of the Word document when it has been pasted into the widget.
When the text has been pasted, you can add images, change the font, add links etc.
To create a link to some text, in the example above, I have highlighted the words ‘Lorem ipsum’ and then clicked on the chain icon to create a link.
I then select the protocol from the drop down selection (usually https:// but check the website) and enter the URL for the website that I want the link to connect to into the pop up box. Make sure that the https:// is not repeated in the URL. If the Target tab is not used, the website will open in your current page.
To add an image to your document, place your insertion point where you want to put the image and select one of three options:
- Image - select this option if your image is held in a website and you can obtain its URL e.g. Flickr, Photobucket, Google images.
- Upload from computer - use this option to upload an image from your computer.
- Upload From Play-Cricket Gallery - images will be selected from those already in your Play-Cricket site’s Photo Gallery.
When the image has uploaded, it may be too big for you to view the layout. You can re-size the window by dragging the triangle in the bottom right hand corner downwards.
To adjust the size of the image, right click on it, and select Image Properties.
Change the image height and its width will adjust automatically to preserve the aspect ratio.
Adding a border will place a black frame around the image. Its width is determined in pixels.
Hspace and Vspace will create a horizontal and vertical space around the image so that it isn’t crowded by the text. Left or right alignment determines the picture’s placement relative to the text.
The changes made to the Image properties have made the article look like this:
At this point, the text can be edited further to change the font, add colour etc.
Click Save Article as Draft if you want to make more changes before publication.
Note that draft articles appear below all activated articles in the list so you may have difficulty finding it unless you search for the title.
The article’s active status may be changed in the list of documents.
The ‘Sticky’ box can be ticked to keep the article at the top of the document list.
Exit administration and go to the document library to view the finished article:
You can link to the article that you have created by copying the URL at the top of the page and pasting it into a link on another web page. Remember not to use the URL from the administration page otherwise the viewer will get a prompt to login as an administrator.
