Play-Cricket Scorer Updates: version 7.4.1 Follow
Hi everyone, a quick note here from the ECB product team.
We know you have a huge amount on your plates, so we want to give you an advance heads up of a minor update to the Play-Cricket Scorer app, which has just rolled out through the app stores in direct response to feedback we heard from scorers last season.
The feedback was clear: while scoring a match worked well, many users found the app difficult to navigate, especially when getting started or needing to hand over scoring duties. This update is designed specifically to address those pain points.
Crucially, we want to reassure you that the actual process of scoring a match has not changed at all. All the familiar buttons and screens for recording runs, wickets, and overs are exactly where they were. These changes are purely cosmetic, aimed at making the app more intuitive and reducing the common frustrations we heard about last year.
Here’s a quick summary of what has changed and the feedback that drove it:
-
-
We heard: "It’s hard to get into the app and start scoring without an account."
-
- Our Solution - Continue without logging in: We've made it much more obvious that you can use the app without logging in, in line with our strategy to make cricket the most inclusive team sport. Play-Cricket is for everyone, not just formal competitions.
-
-
We heard: "The app feels cluttered and it's hard to find things. You have to log out all the time just to get to the menus"
-
- Our Solution - A more standard menu layout: Several features were previously only available from before the login screen. These are now all found either in the top bar, or in the main menu, as they would be in other apps.
-
-
We heard: "It’s stressful if you need someone to take over scoring mid-match, and you often have to give them your password."
-
- Our Solution – Relaunching share via QR code: We’ve relaunched the 'Share Match' feature to be more reliable, allowing for a seamless handover to anyone, even if they don’t have a Play-Cricket account. This was a major pain point raised to us by users, and the feature was always there, it was just really hard to find.
-
-
We heard: "When things go wrong with the service, we don't know what's happening."
-
- Our Solution – Push notifications: We've added push notifications so we can communicate important updates directly to scorers, ensuring you aren't the first port of call. This means that if there is a major outage with Play-Cricket, we can immediately inform all scorers so that they know to score offline and upload their cards later.
