Scoring an U8s/U9s Pairs Cricket Match
On the Play Cricket website create the Pairs Match and add the 6 players to the team for each side (if known)
Make sure you choose the correct Scoring Rule, e.g.
Download the fixtures to your device by accessing the Play Cricket Scorer and pressing the “download” button, please note that Play Cricket updates to the apps at 11am and 1am and so the fixture's availability is dependant on when you create it.
The junior match will then be available to score on the app in the MATCHES section
For this demonstration, we will assume that Anna’s Test Side Under 12 side is the Under 8s/9s match (PAIRS)
Access the fixture on the app and start the match set-up
You will be taken through to the Team Selection screen. As you can see from the screenshot below, 6 players have been selected for each side, but should you need to amend the team, this is where you do it. You can either choose a player from the squad listing, or type in an unregistered player’s name. Once happy with the team selection, press Done
You will now get the below message:
If you are not ready to continue, you can choose to Save and Exit for a later date, but we are going to Continue
You will now be taken to Settings. Adjust the Settings to reflect the rules. The Scoring Rules will default these to the app, but you might need to adjust them to suit.
If you would like the scorer to confirm the action taken for each ball bowled, you can switch on the Confirm balls button
You can amend the defaults as necessary:
Overs per innings 12
Max overs per bowler 2
Wide value 2
No ball value 2
Rebowl NBs and WDs Off
Rebowl NBs and WDs (final over) On
Overs per pair (Pairs only) 4
Unlimited dismissals On
Runs lost per wicket 0
Runs gained per wicket 5
Change strike after a wicket Off
You can now enter who won the toss and who elected to bat
Start scoring the match by choosing the BALL-BY-BALL option
Now select your strike batter, non-strike batter and bowler
The Scoresheet will now be shown and you can start scoring the match.
The app will automatically do the following:
- Prompt when a pair have batted their allotted overs
- Prompt when a bowler has bowled their allotted overs
- Add runs to the fielding side when a wicket is taken
Below are the system messages that you will see
When you press OK you will see the batters that have already been used at the bottom of the screen with a thick line against them
At the end of the 12 0vers, the system will advise you that the overs total has been reached
Press YES and you’ll be taken to the scoresheet where you can click on NEW INNINGS
Now you can pick the batters and bowler, and you will see that the 2nd innings team have already got opening runs (5 for each wicket)
Score as per the first innings and at the end of the 12 overs you will see the below message
Select YES and go into MATCH ACTIONS
Select End Match and you will be asked to confirm
Press YES and you’ll be taken to the Scorecard where you will see the below message
Press OK and, if necessary, edit the scorecard. If no changes are needed, click on the End Match button at the bottom of the screen
The app will now ask what action to take
Select FINALISE RESULT and then select a winner
There will be one final warning message
Press OK and the match will move into “Completed” on the app and will also have automatically updated the Play Cricket website with the result
At the start of a new over you will sometimes have to manually adjust the facing batsman (depending on runs scored from the last ball of the over).
This is done by pressing the three dots against the non-striker’s name
From the options offered, select “Change strike”
The Scorer App allows you to easily double any runs in the Double Zone.
Once you have pressed the number of runs you can press the Double Score button
Remember to review whether the “change strike” option is needed at the end of the over.
The app has a setting where you can decide whether to re-bowl wides or not. You can also set up the app so that wides are re-bowled only in the last over of the innings. The value of the wide can also be adjusted to meet the game requirements
