Scoring 4s and 6s – Boundaries and All-Run Boundaries
A boundary is awarded when the ball reaches or crosses the boundary rope. However, there are occasions when batters run four or six runs without the ball reaching the boundary—this is known as an "all-run" boundary. These instances often occur on large grounds, during misfields or overthrows, or when fielders fail to retrieve the ball quickly.
How to Score a Boundary in the App
- If a batter hits a standard boundary 4 or 6, simply tap the appropriate number in the scoresheet.
How to Record an All-Run 4 or 6
If the batters complete four or six runs by running, rather than the ball reaching the boundary:
- Press and hold the number 4 or 6 instead of tapping it.
- A message will briefly appear, e.g., "Four (All Run)" or "Six (All Run)".
- NB If the scorer has enabled wagon wheels, the "(All Run)" message will appear at the bottom of the wagon wheel screen.
Why Is This Important?
Recording an all-run boundary accurately is essential because:
- It affects partnership statistics and running between wickets data.
- It ensures correct analysis of a batter’s performance (e.g., percentage of runs scored through boundaries vs. running).
By following these steps, you can ensure that every run is recorded accurately, reflecting the true nature of the game.
